Recommendation letter

Scholarship Application

We recruit students for MPhil/PhD/PDF for fulltime studies at the university centers at London/Kuala Lumpur/Bangkok and as well as part time studies.

The program for MPhil/PhD generally requires a master's degree from an accredited college or university for admission, as well as preparation in research skills such as mathematics, statistics, and computer programming.

However, exceptional candidates with a Bachelor's Degree will also be considered for enrollment. The Ph.D. Program Committee reviews all applicants before making a recommendation. Admission decisions are based on:

1.The student's achievements in prior academic work
2.Assessment of the student's analytical capabilities
3.Stated career objectives
4.The ability and potential to do independent research
5.Substantial evidence of scholarly potential and commitment


Application submission

Applicants for PhD and MPhil should attach the following along with the application online:

 
1) Completed application form (or online application)
2) Application fee of US$100. Fee shall be paid through wire transfer/credit card/demand draft in favour of Rajarajan Academy of Higher Learning Ltd, payable at Chennai
3) Brief Curriculum Vitae
4) Official original transcripts
5) Two recommendations letters
6) Results of English Tests (TOEFL/GRE/GMAT)
7) Study plan
8) Research Proposal
9) Copies or abstracts of published papers or project reports
10) Certificate of awards or prizes


 

These scores and letters should be sent directly to Rajarajan Academy of Higher Learning Ltd, Chennai-2. Application form is available online.

  The Rajarajan Academy for completeness will initially evaluate the application, and all materials will be forwarded to the University Schools for necessary faculty review and admission approval.

  University will confirm the admission approval and duly intimate the student.

  MPhil / Ph.D. Program Requirements
 

Students admitted to MPhil program must complete 50 credits (Course work 20 + Dissertation 30 credits). Students admitted to Ph.D. Program with a master's degree must complete at least 40 credits of graduate work at Rajarajan Academy as part of the doctoral program of study. Additional credits may be necessary if the student does not have appropriate prior coursework. The total program consists of 70 credits out of which 30 credits will be allotted to a doctoral dissertation.

  Background Preparation

 

Students are expected to have achieved a basic level of proficiency at the undergraduate or graduate level equivalent to one semester each of coursework in calculus, statistics, and linear algebra. Applicants lacking in the above course background may be admitted on the condition that they complete equivalent courses. Specific courses from the School or departments outside the School will be suggested to satisfy preparation in these areas. Credits earned in these courses do not count toward the degree. A student may choose to demonstrate competence in these background fields by passing an appropriate written equivalency examination in lieu of taking course work.

  Common Core Preparation

 

This component consists of courses that give students general preparation in a common core of knowledge. It will be an advantage for the students to improve their knowledge on common core. Students may be expected to validate exposure to functional business areas: accounting, finance, information systems, marketing and management. Methods of validation include (a) prior coursework, (b) equivalency exam, (c) supervised readings.

  Research Methods Component

 

In this component the student is exposed to the process of scientific inquiry and methodological tools for conducting research. All students are expected to complete at least 2 courses of research methods courses from among the following.

These courses are not compulsory but these courses will help the student to improve the standard of thesis.

 

Research Project

 

As a first step in developing a research focus, MPhil / PhD students are required to submit a paper by the end of their first semester to be presented at a research seminar or conference, or a function that includes at least two faculty members from their respective schools.

 

Time Limit

 

MPhil

 

MPhil Students are require to complete their program of research within a period of 1 year.

 

PhD

 

All degree requirements for PhD must be completed within a period of 3 to 6 years from the date of initial enrollment in the doctoral program. Students having research/teaching management/legal/experience for a minimum period of 2 years will be specially permitted by the universities to submit their thesis in advance before 3 years on case-by-case basis.

 

Postdoctoral Fellowship

 

The university will award postdoctoral fellowship for 12 months and during the period of fellowship the appointee has to complete his research work and submit a thesis. The university on the evaluation of the thesis will issue a certificate for the fellowship awarded.

 

Residency Requirement

 

As a part of the minimum graduate credits which must be earned beyond the master's degree, each MPhil / Ph.D. student must devote at least one continuous academic year to a graduate program of course work, research, and related activities. The continuous year portion of the residency requirement must be completed along with taking the core course examination. The residency requirement is not compulsory but the students have to appear before the university faculty for viva voce (Dissertation & Defense) and written examination at the university centers at London / Bangkok / Kuala Lumpur.

 

Postdoctoral fellows can continue their research in their present job place, continuing the job as it is or go for research at the university centers at London / Bangkok / Kuala Lumpur. During the period of research they will be awarded US $100 per month for 12 months as scholarship.

 

Dissertation and Defense

 

Each student must write a dissertation in the major field of study. A formal defense of the written dissertation by the student and certification of the written dissertation by the thesis committee are necessary steps to complete the degree requirements.

 

The student's research will be conducted under the guidance of a committee comprised at least three graduate faculty members chosen and approved by the School Ph.D. Program Committee.

 

At the conclusion of the research project, the student is required to pass an oral examination in defense of the thesis at any of the university centers in London, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. In the oral examination, they will be asked to prove their efficiency in defense of the thesis.

Students of refused visas to London / Bangkok / Kuala Lumpur can attend oral examination through Video Conference with the university doctoral committee.
